Anne Luckinbill's path to founding Seasons Counseling began long before she entered the counseling profession. As a child, she imagined becoming a child psychiatrist after reading stories about a clinician who could understand children others struggled to reach. Her career first took her into elementary education and then into full-time motherhood, but the desire to understand people and help them through difficult seasons of life never went away.

From the classroom to counseling

When Anne eventually returned to that calling, she began her clinical training in in-home counseling and completed her residency in community services, where she worked with people facing a wide range of complex mental health needs. She later moved into private practice, where her clinical perspective continued to develop.

Those years of direct clinical work shaped a belief that still influences Seasons today: people are generally doing the best they can with what they have available to them in a given moment, and meaningful change becomes more possible when people have stronger internal and external support systems.

“Upholding boundaries is the bedrock of a peaceful mind.”— Anne Luckinbill, LPC, NCC, ACS

How EFT shaped her clinical work

Early in her clinical career, Anne began searching for a stronger way to understand why some emotional and relational patterns can be so difficult to change. That search led her first to John Bowlby's attachment theory and then to Emotionally Focused Therapy. She trained directly with EFT founder Dr. Sue Johnson and became a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist. This certification reflects advanced training, supervised clinical practice, and demonstrated competence in applying the attachment-based model.

EFT changed how Anne approached clinical work. It taught her to look beyond an isolated symptom or behavior and pay attention to the patterns underneath it: how people learned to connect and protect themselves, and how they communicate, withdraw, react, and respond.

Anne often describes the therapy room as a smaller version of the outside world. The patterns that appear in a therapeutic relationship may also appear with partners, parents, children, friends, or colleagues. That makes therapy more than a place to understand what is happening. It can become a place to practice doing something different.

Anne's attention to recurring patterns also shaped her understanding of healthy boundaries, which became another central part of her philosophy. She believes boundaries are not simply rules people state. They have to be understood, communicated, and upheld. When people learn to recognize their own needs while communicating respectfully with others, they create more room for peace, authenticity, healthier relationships, and kindness.

Why she built Seasons

As Anne's career evolved, so did her understanding of what clinicians need in order to provide excellent care. She came to believe that good therapy should not depend on a clinician working alone behind a closed door. Strong clinicians need access to strong supervisors, trusted peers, shared resources, and ongoing consultation.

That belief became foundational to Seasons. Anne built the practice around a team model in which clinicians can draw on the experience of strong supervisors, trusted peers, and the larger organization. When a therapist encounters a difficult question, a complicated case, or an area outside their own experience, they should have people around them to consult.

The goal is not to make every clinician the same. It is to create an environment where different perspectives, specialties, and experiences make the entire team stronger.

Anne carried the same whole-person perspective into the way she built Seasons. The practice emphasizes thoughtful care, strong professional relationships, continual learning, and the understanding that clinicians provide better care when they are supported by a capable team.

Leading Seasons today

Anne no longer maintains an individual therapy caseload. Today, her focus is leading Seasons, supervising clinicians, and strengthening the systems and culture that support thoughtful, connected care across the practice. Her role has shifted from being the person in the therapy room to helping create the environment in which Seasons clinicians can do their best work.

For Anne, Seasons has never been about one therapist having all the answers. It is about protecting a standard of care in which clients and their stories matter, clinicians have the support they need, and therapy respects each person's ability to determine the goals that matter most to them.

Therapists cannot presume to walk in someone else's shoes. They can, however, walk alongside them, listen carefully, remain consistent, and help create the conditions in which meaningful change becomes possible.
